IYCE News Winter 2010

Ann Larner

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ann Larner. Ann was diagnosed with a brain tumour in September 2009 and died peacefully at home on Tuesday 25th May 2010. Ann was full of life, fun and laughter coupled with a brilliant down-to-earth attitude. She was always quick to help and nothing was too much trouble for her. She is greatly missed by all her students and colleagues.</>

Ann started Iyengar yoga in 1999, and showed an interest in teaching at an early stage. She successfully completed teacher training in 2008 and taught at Orsett and Canvey Island. She attended the convention taught by Geeta Iyengar in May 2009.

Ann was very involved with her family and had three daughters Carey, Maria and Sarah and four grandchildren. Our condolences go to Gordon and family.</> Geeta Iyengar

Geeta was unwell in the summer and not teaching. We all wish her a speedy and complete recovery.

Birthday Celebration Mat Auction

2010 has been a very difficult year for IYCE with the loss of Lesley Buckley and Ann Larner. Lesley was one of the most experienced intermediate teachers in the county and Ann a new Introductory teacher. This year we will still celebrate Guruji’s birthday but also remember all of our teachers past and present.

The event will be held at the Quaker Meeting House, Chelmsford on 27 November 2010. See enclosed booking form. Susan Long will teach an asana class in the morning and after a break there will be a mat auction. Earlier this year many of you took part in a trial of various yoga mats ranging in price from £12 to £90. The mats will be auctioned – see enclosed list of mats and manufacturer’s recommended prices.

Finding a Class

There have been several changes to classes during September. The list of Iyengar yoga classes in Essex is now available and has been up-dated on the IYCE website. www iyce.com You can search by town, teacher or day. When you have a list on screen, just click on any individual class for more details of that particular class.

Paul is doing his classes privately this year. Susan Clark is teaching her Monday class privately and Susan Long has changed her Intermediate classes and one of the Health Problem classes to private basis.

IYCE Events This Year

There have been fewer workshops this year but Karen de Villiers taught a general level workshop for IYCE at the Quakers Meeting House in March. We had a challenging and enjoyable morning of asanas. Thank you Karen. In May Elaine Martin who is a First Aid trainer and Iyengar yoga teacher came and taught a day of First Aid for our teachers. It was well attended and a very useful day.Susan Long ran a Foundation Course and started a new teacher training course in June.
